How many times can you bounce a tennis ball using alternate hands?

 


BALL BOUNCES 

 EQUIPMENT         Stopwatch

                                  Tennis ball

  • Using a tennis ball, stand on the spot with feet as wide as you like, start bouncing the ball using alternate hands     
  •  Counting stops as soon as you move a foot or as soon as you forget to use alternate hands!  
  • Counting also stops if/when you reach 5 minutes

Please submit number of successful bounces you do without stopping, without moving your feet & always using alternate hands

OPTIONAL CHALLENGE

If you're feeling really energetic, you can enter a 2nd challenge.  Certificates will be awarded for top competitors however, your scores do not count towards your school's total.  You are entered as an individual against those in your school as well as the other schools.

How many times can you throw & catch a tennis ball against a wall in 1 minute using alternate hands? 

 EQUIPMENT          Stopwatch

                                  Tennis ball

                                   Line/marker to stand behind

                                  Wall

  • Mark or use a line which is at least 1 metre away from a wall  

           NB  Pupils must not cross this line at any time during the challenge

  • 60 seconds starts on the word 'Go!'
  • Pupil holds the ball in one hand and throws it with an underarm throw at the wall. It is then caught with the other hand

-   NB   Alternate hands MUST be used eg, if right hand throws the ball, the left hand must catch it then throw it again and catch with the right hand. THE BALL MUST NOT BE PASSED ACROSS TO THE OTHER HAND

  •    1 point is scored each time the ball is caught successfully

-    NB If the ball is dropped, it can be retrieved with counting continuing from where the pupil left off - above rules continue to apply

  IF PUPILS CHOOSE TO COMPLETE THE SECOND CHALLENGE AS WELL AS THE FIRST, ENTRIES CAN BE MADE ON THE SAME SPREADSHEET.  THIS CAN ALSO BE DOWNLOADED FROM THE 'TEACHERS AREA'  (Previous password required).
